critical

My grandmother is really ill. She came out of hospital yesterday after having some tests done, and ended up getting taken back in there later on with heart and lung failure. Apparently she's out of danger now, but still on the critical list. I'm not sure how to interpret that - wouldn't critical be dangerous? I can't think properly either, as I have a head cold. I can't believe that one person can generate so much fluid from his nose.
