facebook apps inherently unsafe

by Dave Thu 1 May 2008 @ 15:53

At last, someone has come up with a decent report on how insecure Facebook apps really are.  In this BBC report you'll see why I don't generally use Facebook apps.

flash game of old...

by Dave Thu 1 May 2008 @ 01:51

Way way back (this would be when we lived in Cork I think, which makes it when I was fourteen or fifteen) I had a game for one of my computers.  It was about keeping a ball up in the air and getting points for the most amount of kicks you could make. Someone has re-created it with a more modern slant and James linked to it recently.  Check it out for some time-consuming fun!

dirty old town

by Dave Tue 22 April 2008 @ 14:40

All I can say is... holy shit! I had no idea. I grew up with this song and if you had asked me I would have told you for sure it was about Dublin. Hell, the lyrics even match. I presumed that the Gas Works wall where I met my love were down around Pearce Street area where the old Gasometer was. (Aside, did you know my grandfather used to work on it?).

So, it turns out that Dirty Old Town isn't about Dublin at all.  Thanks Dave, you just shattered a long held belief there for me.  Its about Salford, which is in Lancashire! It was written by a guy called Ewan McColl (father of Kirsty McColl) in 1949 as a filler for a scene change in his play Landscape with Chimneys. Bizarre and unexpected.  Anyway, linky below.

Linkage : Dirty Old Town.

bye bye bertie

by Dave Wed 2 April 2008 @ 08:51

Wow.  After eleven years as Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern is to resign next month. He said that it has nothing to do with the ongoing investigation of his finances to see if he took backhanders hen he was in office. "I know in my heart of hearts I have done no wrong and wronged no-one." said Ahern today.  All I know so far is from the BBC, but I wonder what the real reason is?

died in a blogging accident

by Dave Fri 11 January 2008 @ 19:46

You'd think that it was safe to sit behind a keyboard and type, right? Well not anymore it would seem. This diagram illustrates the danger of blogging. Be warned, the problem is growing ever bigger. There are two results here, but the problem is growing as we speak. When I checked before posting this warning, we were at 463! Let this be a warning!!!

wtf?

"Thank you for your comment on the purchase you made recently with Sony Style. We are always trying to improve our service, and value customer feedback at all times. We read and try and act on every single comment."  I bought my laptop from them in August, and made whatever comment I made in the survey at the end of the transaction.  How's that for customer feedback appreciation ;-)
