10am. Are we done with London and ready to go then? Well, I guess so. We've been running around for a while getting everything sorted, running through checklists and just Getting Things Done. The post is supposed to be redirected from today or maybe even tomorrow. It doesn't help that some came through the letterbox today from the dentist we had requested our records from and closed our accounts with. There's a minor panic was just averted in the other room when we discovered that we had too many clothes to bring with us and not enough suitcase space. We're going to be overweight on that flight to DE I can tell you. Nothing we can do about it though, our stuff is not going to get there for about a week, maybe two and we simply have to have enough stuff to last us through. It may be even longer than that too - everything we have is going to be stored in Anna's parent's basement, and we might be able to leave it all boxed until we find somewhere to live.
17:53. It seems like the end is in sight. I kept the PC and server running and they're all that is left now, apart from the laptops which are coming with us tomorrow. I have to disconnect the speakers, which means moving all the furniture so I can take up the carpet so I can get the wires. The line from my DSL router to the socket runs under another piece of carpet around the wall and that has to go too. The server needs to be taken down and disconnected (and I have to go through the disks in the array and make sure they are secure. I never managed to get hold of an HDD shipping case (the kind that manufacturers would ship them to OEMs in) so I'm going to leave them in the server and write "FRAGILE!!!" all over it in luminous radioactive poison. That's about it I think. Power strips and cables are all that remains I think.
This is the last post I will make from this flat. That is really only starting to sink in. I have been so busy with the logistics of this move that I may have forgotten to be excited about it for the last few days. Wow. Last!

Our landlords had the large tree in our front garden felled this morning. Nobody seems to have known about it until it was underway. It was pretty upsetting actually, as it was a lovely large tree that provided shade and shelter from the London weather.
We went out to see a Finnish Christmas Market, and when we came back, they were felling another one across the road. Seems like the whole street has gone in for a wee bout of arboricide.

We were doing a little spring cleaning earlier today, and I cleared out a shit load of junk from a box where I usually keep PC manuals and stuff. In the process, I came across my handwritten notes for
this blog entry that I wrote when we were in Istanbul a couple of years ago. It brought back a load of memories, including some that didn't make it into the original post. It hardly seems worth the effort now, but its nice to look back on little details you had forgotten.
When we were finished blitzing the living room, we ended up chucking out the VCR, printer, scanner and about twenty video tapes. I figured that if I left them outside near the bins that they would get taken, but I hadn't figured on the speed; they actually disappeared within an hour!
I've listed my Synology NAS on ebay, as I've just installed a new server which I'm putting a RAID array in. The drives are going to arrive on Thursday, so I should have about 1.2TB of space by Friday. Hmmmmm.... one point two terabytes :-)

Its too damn early here, and I'm up. I had anticipated a nice lie-in this morning, but the builders called at 08:30 so I had to get up. They're going to be here for the whole weekend, getting the room under the stairs waterproofed and converted into something we can use for storage. I have to see if they can also fix the bathroom sink where Anna broke it, and if they have a new fireplace to go in the hole in the living room. All that is going to have to wait until I finish my coffee though.
We're off to Germany later, for the weekend. Its Anna's birthday on Tuesday you see, so we're going to hook up with her parents and friends for the party. Not that we're actually having a party, but there will be celebrating. And beer.

Clock went off this morning an hour early. The heating wasn't running either, so it was fucking cold. I got up, switched on the coffee machine and heating, and went back to bed. I was so tired, I went back asleep again... for an hour. But that was ok, the alarm clock hadn't been on BST, so I woke up in time to get to work. An eventful weekend indeed, with the whole new PC thing happening. It took me all of Saturday and Sunday to get it up and running, and still there are things I need to install.
Anna is back to Uni today, for the first time in two weeks. She's worried about catching up on stuff, but I think its going to be ok. Oh, and whatever time you think I posted this... its really 08:15. Have to fix that date function.

I can't believe it was March 1st when I last updated this. Lots of stuff has happened since then. We were in Germany for a week, ate some good foord, drank some good beer, and got to do some snowboarding. We got back and the place was a building site. Some work was being done, and it isn't finished yet, in fact it will take another week, which makes the amount of time it took almost exactly triple what it should have. ::sigh:: More tomorrow.

At last... I have made this site compliant with the strict model of XHTML, and compliant with CSS, and I'm going to fix the P3P policy soon. There are two buttons at the bottom of the page which it has taken me a few weeks to be able to be able to display - the ones that say I am compliant with the official standards. This side now works properly in IE 6 and Mozilla 0.99. I haven't checked it yet in the 5.0 browsers, but there's no reason why it shouldn't work.
Over the last few weeks, I've been playing with web programming a bit more than usual. Although it looks pretty much the same as usual, the technology behind how this is all displayed is different from before. It should be faster, and it should work in more browsers than before. Testing will validate that... later ;-)
So, the guys came around yesterday and fitted a new central heating system - and it seems to be woking fine so far :-) Anna's flu is starting to clear up, though she isn't completely over it yet. It was a bit worrying for a while, she went through a couple of days where her temperature was going up and down very quickly every few minutes. Its frustrating for her at the moment... she's better than before, but not yet good enough to get up and do stuff :-(

::sigh:: The heating died again last night, in exactly the same way it went last week - the "low pressure" light came on, and it decided that it didn't want to work anymore. Richard or Steve (our friendly heating engineers) will be out to fix the thing this morning (yes, I know its past noon, and that pisses me off too), so hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

Let me give you my definition of fucking annoying... For the last two days we haven't had central heating or hot water working because the boiler has been screwed. The "Low Pressure" light on the unit was on, and consequently it wouldn't work. The guys were supposed to come fix it yesterday, but they never made it. They called to say that they'd be here between 08:30 and 09:00 this morning. When I got up this morning, I tried to switch on the boiler, and to my amazement... the damn thing worked. So now, the engineer has arrived and it works... how stupid do I feel right now.

What a fucking nightmare. Anna is gone into Leicester Square to do some shopping. A while ago, I went outsite for a smoke, and pulled the door over behind me. Unfortunately the small window in the bedroom is open, and the door got pushed by the wind and closed. I wasn't that concerned really, the landlords were upstairs and they have a spare key. When I finished my fag, I went upstairs, to discover that they were gone out. Oh shit. I went around the back of the house to see if I could get into the garden and try to get in the small window, but there was a 4 meter high wall at the back with razor wire on the wall. Then I came back around the front, and decided to wait for Anna to come home. After about 20 minutes, I realised she hadn't taken her key with her, so I was well and truly screwed. Eventually I found a piece of bamboo in the garden, which I stuck through the letterbox and used to open the door. Thank god for rubbish eh? :-)
