At last... I have made this site compliant with the strict model of XHTML, and compliant with CSS, and I'm going to fix the P3P policy soon. There are two buttons at the bottom of the page which it has taken me a few weeks to be able to be able to display - the ones that say I am compliant with the official standards. This side now works properly in IE 6 and Mozilla 0.99. I haven't checked it yet in the 5.0 browsers, but there's no reason why it shouldn't work.
Over the last few weeks, I've been playing with web programming a bit more than usual. Although it looks pretty much the same as usual, the technology behind how this is all displayed is different from before. It should be faster, and it should work in more browsers than before. Testing will validate that... later ;-)
So, the guys came around yesterday and fitted a new central heating system - and it seems to be woking fine so far :-) Anna's flu is starting to clear up, though she isn't completely over it yet. It was a bit worrying for a while, she went through a couple of days where her temperature was going up and down very quickly every few minutes. Its frustrating for her at the moment... she's better than before, but not yet good enough to get up and do stuff :-(

At last... it works again. It works in Internet Explorer, it works in Mozilla, it works in Netscape, and its W3C standards compliant :-)
Today was pretty cool - we went out to Kew again, and took the kite with us. Unfortunately the wind was too strong for us to fly it (and fucking bizarre too - it was going around in circles, then dying, then going straight, backwards, forwards, all over the place), so we didn't get much chance to play. The damn thing broke too, at the point where the vertical strut is held into the top of the kite, the canvas ripped slightly and the strut popped out. Have to fix that soon. We'll try again when the wind is better :-)

OK, now we're getting somewhere :-) I've re-written the front page to take the blog from an XML file I save when adding an entry. This means it'll be faster, and less prone to server fuckups. Next, I'm going to build the interface back up, bit-by-bit, checking for W3C compliance each step of the way.

Some interesting things came together in my head today, and I have a better idea of what I want to do with the web site. We were in the Design Museum, some of the works we saw can be seen here and here.

This is pretty cool - I'm writing this on my PDA ;-) The quality of sites displayed on Pocket IE is far better than I had seen before. Text is still a complete bitch to enter though.

::sigh:: Another late night, and I just can't seem to make this web site do exactly what I want it to do... space itself out correctly on the page, no matter what browser / screen size you are using. Its a huge pain in the ass.

What a day. I've been running around like a blue-arsed fly organising stuff I really don't want to organise. I wonder what the etymology of the phrase "Blue-arsed fly" is? Going to find out....
Didn't find it, but Google has some interesting links on the subject. Anyway, there's been a pretty negative reaction to the way the site looks now, with about 5 people saying it looks shit. To them, I have to say "Fuck you". It's MY site, and it'll look the way I want. Until next weekend anyway, when I'll probably put it back the way it was ;-)

It took until 5am this morning to get the the stage I'm at now. And now that I look at it , it IS shit (Thanks Dave & John). ::sigh:: I'm going to have to do this all over again, aren't I?

Site is fucked. Making it W3C compliant has screwed everything. Roll on the redesign... might look like this :

Fuck me... I didn't think it was going to be THAT difficult. Anyway, it works now, after I wrote some routines to dynamically size stuff depending on the screen resolution. Working version is here, I'll finish the rest off and put it live tomorrow. Have to get sleep now, tired beyond belief.
