cough

by Dave Mon 31 May 1999 @ 11:00

I have a cough left over from the flu I had last week, and it sucks. I wasn't able to stay asleep last night because of it :-( Anna now has this flu too, just to make things all nice and fluffy. It has to be the climate or the athmosphere here - neither of us has been as generally ill as we have been for the last few months. The air quality in London is one of those things that I just don't understand. How can a govornment actually let something like this go on without seemingly taking any notice? ::sigh::

u2

by Dave Sun 30 May 1999 @ 11:00

Yesterday, when we went to the Wharf, I went into a music shop to see if I could find Tina Arena's first album. They didn't have it, but I did find a new U2 compilation CD which I hadn't head before, and which had a really good selection of tracks on it. God what a great buy this was - the tracks are all from the 80's, in the rock'n'roll period, and all are remastered. They all seem more rounded and well balanced than the original versions… it kicks ass big time :-)

My parents went to the Grand Prix in Barcelona today, I wonder if they enjoyed it as much as I think they did???

thunderstorm and coffee

by Dave Sat 29 May 1999 @ 11:00

WOW!!! What an incredible mind-fuck the weather can be :-))) Today was one of those hot, muggy days, when you feel sticky and lazy. The sun wasn't directly out there, but you could feel its effects. It was the kind of day that it took us about 20 minutes to walk to the Wharf, instead of about 5, and we had to sit down and take it easy when we got there. If I had thought about it then I'd have said there was going to be a thunder storm that evening, just to clear things a bit. I didn't, and there was. It was one of the best thunder storms I've ever experienced :-) All of a sudden it turned lovely and cool, and we could see the storm front coming over the river twoards us, so we went out to the pier to get closer to it. The rain, when it hit, was fantastic, it was cold but not too cold and it felt very refreshing. Then the lightening started to strike the buildings around us!! It suddenly got very loud and very scary - the storm was directly above us, and we were out fairly much in the open with all this electricity striking the building just around the corner. Then the rain turned cold, like really cold, and heavy, so we started to run home. The rain became so heavy that it started to hurt where it hit us, and the sound of it on the ground was like a large audience clapping. Just as we got back to the house it turned to hail stones. They were so big and heavy that I still (this is 24 hours later) have some small bruises on my arm where I stuck it out into the open to show Cian some of them in my hand! There was only one way to cap this all off - a long steamy hot bath and some coffee :-)))

burning boxers

by Dave Fri 28 May 1999 @ 11:00

OK, so it all started out innocently enough. I made a bet with Anna that I'd beat her at shithead. I bet her the removal of her clothes. It was hot at the time and we were both just wearing our underwear anyway. She said no, but asked me to take off my boxer shorts because she didn't like them - you see they were old ones with long tears down the side. Somehow, I don't remember the exact train of conversation, but the bet changed to be that if I lost the game of shithead then I'd have to burn my boxer shorts and throw them out the window. I lost. I'll post the pictures on Tuesday when I get the camera software re-installed ;-) Suffice to say that a flaming pair of boxer shorts flying out of a second story window on a dark night is pretty spectacular :-))

wagamama

by Dave Sun 23 May 1999 @ 11:00

OK, in case you didn't notice I've been a little worker bee for the last week. I've been doing the old favourite cycle of work-eat-sleep again and I'm shagged. Work has been fantastic - all I need to do are get another one or two of me and I think I'll be able to deal with all I have to deal with. I've kinda gotten sucked into the whole localisation thing now, and I would appear to have put myself in the situation of being the only one in the company to actually know how the process works. Nic is in a similar position with CS. Its not quite what I expected when I said I'd do project management. I mean, of course I wanted to do this, but I'd like to have been more prepared for getting my other stuff moved to someone else first. ::sigh:: C'est la vie ;-) On the plus side, I've gone from being able to play with the latest toys (which was funky) to being the one who makes the latest toys (which is very funky indeed) :-))

Anna is continuing to be brilliant at college - she has a big assignment for her Hygiene class recently, and she scored the highest result ever from this lecturer. She scored a straight 100% Distinction :-))) The rest of her results have been just as dissappointing - all distinctions and merits ;-) We've gotten big time lately into eating Japanese food. The restaurant I was talking about a couple of weeks ago wasn't called Wagarama, it is Wagamama. They also produce a book called "The Way of the Noodle" which is a collection of their recipies, and some insightful info about Zen and the art of cooking. We got the book and I've tried a couple of the recipies, and they work brilliantly :-) We've had Chicken Ramen which is basically a Ramen stock soup, with egg noodles, small strips of chicken and some vegetables and garnish. There's a beef equivalent we've done too, which is nice, though I think I'd have preferred it a little spicier… next time perhaps :-)
